DPF’s History
The Denton Parks Foundation was established by community members who believed that strong parks create strong communities. Formed to support and enhance Denton’s public parks, trails, and green spaces, the Foundation serves as a partner to the City of Denton—helping turn community vision into lasting impact.
Over the years, the Denton Parks Foundation has helped turn community vision into lasting impact—supporting park enhancements, special projects, and programs that connect people to nature and to one another. Since its founding, in 1987, the Denton Parks Foundation has played a vital role in expanding access to parks and recreation through the funding of scholarship programs, ensuring that community members of all ages can participate in park and recreation opportunities regardless of financial barriers.
The Foundation is also proud to support a number of projects that have shaped Denton’s park system and strengthened community connection. These include Denton’s first splash pad, the preservation of the Cross Timbers Park ecosystem, the community-built playground at Eureka 2, both of Denton’s Dog Parks, the installation of musical play equipment at Quakertown Park, and Denton’s second Disc Golf Course at North Lakes Park. Each project reflects the Foundation’s commitment to innovation, environmental stewardship, and inclusive spaces that bring people together.
Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners, the Foundation has helped preserve the character of Denton’s parks while investing in their future.
Today, the Denton Parks Foundation continues to build on this legacy—championing parks as essential places for recreation, wellness, and community connection, and ensuring they remain vibrant and accessible for generations to come.
