Owsley Park is a pocket park named for Alvin Clark Owsley (1856 - 1938), a lawyer, former Denton School Teacher, member of the 21st, 22nd, and 24th Texas State Legislatures and Special Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court in 1934. Owsley’s efforts in Denton were instrumental in the founding of Texas Normal College (now known as The University of North Texas) in 1890 where he served as the Secretary of the first Board of Regents. The surrounding streets of Stella, Charlotte, and Louise are named for his daughters.
