About the Park

Joe Skiles Park is a 5.5-acre neighborhood park located in north Denton, offering a mix of recreational amenities and open green space for local residents. The park includes a walking trail, playground, pavilion, and sports facilities designed for casual use and everyday outdoor recreation.

The park was dedicated to the City of Denton in 1964 and named in honor of attorney and developer Joe Henry Skiles, who played a significant role in the development of the Southridge area and other neighborhoods in Denton. His contributions to local development helped shape portions of the city’s residential growth during that period.

In 2024, the park underwent significant improvements and celebrated its grand re-opening on June 1, coinciding with National Trails Day. The renovations included a new quarter-mile loop trail, a playground, a pavilion for gatherings, updated landscaping, improved irrigation, shade trees, and additional benches to enhance accessibility and comfort.

Park Experience

Joe Skiles Park is designed for relaxed neighborhood use, with space for walking, picnics, and casual recreation. The loop trail provides an easy walking route, while the playground and pavilion make it a convenient spot for families and small gatherings.

With its updated amenities and shaded areas, the park now offers a more comfortable and accessible outdoor experience for daily recreation and community use.
