Unicorn Lake Trail
Denton’s most “mythical-sounding” park
Located about 5.3 miles, or a 12-minute drive, away from the Denton Square.
The trail around Unicorn Lake is concrete with a total length of .75 miles.
This route is a loop with the start and finish at the street-side pathway access point.
In the early 1960s, this area was a large farm that eventually hosted the Selwyn School. The school leased the 150-acre farm on the outskirts of Denton, where students, parents, faculty and friends transformed the cattle barns and a small farmhouse into classrooms. While at the farm, some of the students learned a medieval story revealing the secret of how to catch a unicorn. From the students’ fascination with this fairytale, the unicorn came to be the school mascot and the lake on campus was dubbed Unicorn Lake. The school has since relocated, but the lake remains.
